Right now I have put all my manuscripts aside to work on a piece for my Fiction Writing Class. The assignment was to write a short story and was due before Spring Break. Due to the fact that I was a serial procrastinator for those last few weeks before break, I wrote my story in a rush. Overall, I think it turned out ok and everyone in workshop seemed to like it. However, it is now time to re-write it, edit out parts, and do a little work on strengthening the plot-line before I have to turn it in (the first Tuesday after break is over I believe). Easy right?
It should be, that's for sure! I am having trouble with it though! The story is about a young college girl, Liz, who suddenly discovers after her grandmother dies that she has inherited psychic abilities. She discovers this on the morning of her 21st birthday when she is in class and can hear her classmates and teachers thoughts. The rest of the story is about how she learns to deal with this rather extraordinary birthday "gift" and even more so, what she learns about herself and her past.
When I began writing this story, I used inspiration from around me and had big plans for it. Yet because I was rushing it, I don't feel like it met it's full potential! I want to re-write it and do some major character work as well as take the plot down a new path. How I want to do it is another question entirely!
These dilemmas are the currently at the top of the list. I know it will hit me eventually. My hope is that the workshop/conference on Saturday will inspire me and give me some good ideas! Speaking of which... 2 days! I need to pull a little more together portfolio wise, but other than that I am ready to go!

Life is Like a Novel with the End Ripped Out...

I heard this song the other day and fell in love with it. More specifically, I fell in love with one line. "Life is like a novel with the end ripped out; and it really is. We live life one chapter at a time, turning the pages everyday. No one knows how their story will turn out because we are writing it as we go along. Life is a story... and it is our story. Just a thought!

Kat
P.S. I am really really enjoying the current chapter in my life! I know that this is random, but I needed to say it somewhere! I'm really happy and it's wonderful!
"Stand" lyrics by Rascal Flatts:
You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
Alone and helplessLike you've lost your fight
But you'll be alright, you'll be alright
[Chorus:]
Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you're made of
You might bend, till you break
Cause its all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you've had enough
You get mad you get strong
Wipe your hands shake it off
Then you Stand,
Then you stand
Life's like a novel
With the end ripped out
The edge of a canyon
With only one way down
Take what you're given before its gone
Start holding on, keep holding on
[Repeat Chorus]
OoohhhThen you stand yeahhh
Everytime you get up
And get back in the race
One more small piece of youStarts to fall into place
Ooohhh
[Repeat Chorus]
In a Quotable Mood :0)
As many of you know I am addicted to song lyrics and quotes that I can appy to my life! I decided today I would share a few just for fun. So here you go!

Spring Break!
Yea! It's Spring Break, this should mean plenty of time to write.... right? Ok, so it hasn't happened yet. However, I am excited for my work schedule this week because I am going to try and get some time put in behind my laptop on my manuscripts. I also need to wrap up everything for my workshop/conference on Saturday.
I made the decision to save on money (since I am going skydiving in May and other assorted costly adventures) and just get up extremely early to go down to Kansas City for this conference rather than get a hotel the night before. I'm still excited though! I am due for another boost of inspiration! 5 days and counting! Other than this, the week is started and nothing huge is going on. It was a good weekend and it had a very good ending. I wasn't ready to wake up this morning (probably because I was still awake at 4 a.m.), but you have to have a Monday to get a Friday, so I'm not complaining! ;0)
