I am not a morning person! But yesterday, getting up a little earlier than usual was worth it for sure! It was Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Day at ESU and I volunteered to help out! Not just help out with little things either... I got to be the reader! That would be combining my two favorite things! Children and reading! Let me tell you it was a great way to start my Wednesday morning!
I had the opportunity to work with 3 different age groups; each of which had their own little personalities and different energy levels! The first group (maybe 2 or 3 year olds) was hyper! The second group was a little better, able to sit and listen to the story! Then the third group came (maybe 5 year olds) and they were great! They were quiet, all ears, and listening so well up to the third page when Corduroy came through the door! Then it was all screams and giggles! It was cute!
Overall the morning was a great success. It was a great reminder of how much I love working with kids, and why it is that I love writing for kids. Books play such an important role in a child's life at all ages. I hope one day a book that I write can become a part of child's life. But in the mean time, I had a great time kickin' it with corduroy!
